IBS Bookmaster is especially suitable for publishers that run their own distribution operations and have sales of $10M thru $1B. They have clients in 16 countries and are well known for rapid implementation of large complex installations. They have a growing client list of 115+ clients.

Bookworks is tightly integrated with with the Media Services group of periodical management and conference management software.

Cats Pajamas is an easy to use order processing and royalty management software. They recently announced support for ASNs (Advance Shipping Notices) required by major chains and wholesalers.

Focus on Publishing is an integrated publishing management and accounting solution for publishers based in the United Kingdom.

Klopotek offers powerful editorial, contracts, royalty, rights and production management functionality for larger publishers.

Knk offers a suite of Microsoft certified optional modules for Microsoft's Dynamics NAV (Navision) product line. The software is distributed in the Midwest USA by Solution Dynamics.

Trilogy Publishing is a UK based software vendor. They have one client in the United States and 90+ clients in Europe.

Advantage and Global Turnkey offer strong subscription systems to publishers in this market segment.

Vista offers leading edge technology and ASP solutions for larger publishers in this market segment.


Acumen Book

ACUMEN Book is an integrated ERP software with a true Windows graphical user interface. It handles order processing, inventory management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, job costing, purchase orders, direct mail analysis, and contact management.

Optional modules for e-commerce, EDI, on-line credit card authorization, consignment sales, foreign currency transactions, point of sale, subscriptions, VAT, and fulfillment import for publishers that use an outside service or distributor for order fulfillment.

The Acumen book publishing software allows you to start with a license for a few users and add more as your company grows, and it does not require a MIS department to maintain the software. The  software is updated quarterly with new features and clients can vote on-line for the new features that they want to see implemented.

Our Opinion: Advantage is best suited for publishers that handle a large volume of orders. With Advantage publishers must supply their own title information management solution. Some Advantage clients use Quality Solutions products to fill this functionality gap.


IBS Bookmaster

The IBS Bookmaster book publishing software ERP solution is used by over 110 publishers worldwide.

It is known for its best of breed warehouse management and distribution software in addition to fast implementations.

As a division of IBS, a publicly traded company with sales exceeding $300M USD, it is one of the more financially stable vendors in the industry.

Bookmaster is targeted at book publishers with sales of $15M to $2B with prices starting at about $100,000.

Bookworks

The Bookworks modules are offered by Media Services Group, a company well known for its magazine management software. These modules handle inventory management, royalties, job costing, sales analysis, direct mail sales, accounts receivable, and comp tracking. Media Services is one of the few companies to offer an ASP service to book publishers. Offices in Stamford, Toronto, Los Angeles, and London answer your support needs.

The Application Service Provider supplies the robust hardware, high bandwidth, server security, people-intensive and expensive system admin, reliability and software upgrades needed to keep your enterprise focused on your business and not on the complex technology infrastructure. Your company is freed from technology support and maintenance -- and from its overhead. The cost for this service is about $250 to $275 per month per user + a setup fee + a data conversion fee.

Media Services is working to convert Bookworks to a .NET platform.

This is a tried and true book publishing program that does a few things very well.  - accounts receivable, order processing, royalties, and inventory management. Its simplicity and ease of use make it a powerful option for publishers wishing to complement their existing accounting systems.
