eBook Publishing Software
Software for Self Publishers
Though most of our clients have sales of
$5M to $100M, we offer these recommendations for the many self
publishers that ask us about eBook publishing.
Why eBooks?
Once you've written the book,
compiled it as an eBook (easy using software like eBook Pro that
comes with the 2009 Insiders Guide to Marketing Your Business on the
Internet (as of March 20, 2009)),
and uploaded it to your website, that's it..
- You DON'T pay to have your information printed
(FREE!)
- You DON'T pay to deliver your products
(FREE!)
- You DON'T don't pay for warehouse space
(Not required!)
- You DON'T have to hire any staff
(Not required!)
... Because your eBooks are delivered
automatically, electronically, to every single buyer, within
MINUTES of the order being placed!
And, since you DON'T need to pay for all this extra overhead,
almost all the money you make selling eBooks goes
directly into YOUR
personal bank account.
Internet Marketing
If you want to know how to sell
information products online effectively, we recommend that you start
by purchasing the
2009 Insiders Guide to Marketing Your Business on the Internet.
This is the most complete guide to internet marketing of
informational products that we know of. Its a 900 plus page step by
step guide to internet marketing.
That said, if you are just starting out
we recommend that you;
-
Purchase and read the
2009 Insiders Guide to Marketing Your Business on the Internet.
Use this guide to write your own action plan, and stick to the
plan if you want to succeed.
-
Then, write your eBook, and hire
someone to edit & proofread it. If you are new to publishing you
may want to consider using the
Book Design Wizard for Microsoft Word to get you started
(price about $37). Note that this software only runs on a PC and
requires Microsoft Word. If you don't have Microsoft Word I
suggest that you purchase the Microsoft Office Home and
Student Edition which includes the Word 2007 software.
You should also purchase a book on how to use this software. I
recommend Microsoft Word 2007 Step by Step.
-
Only after your eBook is written
should you purchase your eBook software and setup your website.
-
Start marketing your website. For if
no one knows about it, you will get no visitors and no sales.
eBook Software
For eBook Publishing there are several
software options. These include - Adobe Acrobat, eBook Pro and
Desktop Author and countless other solutions. Each has their unique
strengths and weaknesses.
Adobe Acrobat is a universal standard.
If you are not afraid of users copying and distributing your files
use Adobe Acrobat. You can purchase adobe acrobat from Adobe or
Amazon.com. You can arrange for payment from your web site by using
PayPal.
If you want to protect your intellectual
property you can use E-book software such as eBook Pro or Desktop
Author to convert your book into an eBook.
Desktop Author has
embedded payment option - for which you pay a small one time setup
fee and a small percentage is deducted from each sale. If you are
pinching pennies you will find this a more affordable option than
eBook Pro.
With eBook Pro you are
responsible for setting up your own merchant account. You can do
this through 1shoppingcart.com for $99 a month, however, you are not
charged a percentage of the sale. Furthermore, eBook Pro also
allows you to collect the readers name and email, for use in future
marketing campaigns.
If you have a small volume of sales we
suggest that you go with Desktop Author. If you expect sales to
exceed $1000 a month it may be more cost effective to go with
eBook Pro.
Adobe Acrobat
Adobe Acrobat PDF files can be protected
in a number of ways;
1. Password Protection - the publisher
may require a users enter a password to open the file.
2. You can control whether your customer
copy or print from a document. Harlequin sells PDF romance novels
with print and copy features disabled.
eBook Pro
eBook Pro not only protects your book
from printing and copying but also from being opened by unauthorized
persons. The eBook checks with its server to see if it has a valid
active registration code and if the user has not exceeded the
number of registrations which you established for your e-books.
Publishers can disable the eBook
if a customer wants a refund.
Pricing for eBook Pro is $197. (But it's
frequently offered for free with the Internet Marketing Course
mentioned above.)
Click here to find out how to make your information burglar-proof, so that it can't be stolen and resold by others.
Not that users selecting eBook Pro must also arrange for their
ecommerce site to collect payment and send an unlocking code. For
this function, we recommend the professional package of
www.1shoppingcart.com.
The professional package cost $99 a month, or $999 a year.
The professional package offers;
Desk Top Author features an internal image editor, password
protection, auto page turn for displays, and a virus-free
proprietary format. Create, Protect and sell your e-Book with the all in one DRM and Payment Gateway
feature it is the worlds first DRM - Payment gateway combination
