Selling Remainders Selling Remainder Books on Amazon 14 June 2002 Used books account for 23% of Amazon's sales. If you are a publisher with overstocked books you might want to think about selling them on Amazon or Ebay instead of using a remainder dealer. Why? A remainder dealer will may only pay you $0.50 or $1.00 a book, on Amazon you can often net 30% to 50% of the book's list price. Example: List Price: $30.00 To do this effectively you must include a description of the title in your Amazon Z-shops listing and ship the books promptly upon order receipt. Example: One vendor listed books in Amazon Z-shops without a description and did not sell one book. Another listed their old titles on Amazon Z-shops with a description and sold 70% of their stock in five weeks. How to do it? Go to Amazon.com, click on the Sell Your Stuff button at the top of the page. Then follow the instructions. Go to Ebay.com, click on Sell and create a new account. Then follow the instructions. We advise all on-line vendors whether using Amazon or EBay to let them handle the payment collection. This makes it easier & less risky for the customer and the vendor. Include Links to your Web Site When preparing the product description for Amazon Z-shops or Amazon Marketplace or Ebay you can include a link to your primary web site. ---------------------------------------------------------- Tips for Publishers is a weekly column authored by Edwin Fager.
