Selling to Libraries

Increase Your Sales to Libraries

16 July 2002

Library selling is an art. You must address the needs of librarians.

You can not mail them your standard consumer direct mail catalog and expect them to buy your titles.

You should produce a targeted piece that devotes at least 1/2 to 1 page for each book.

This piece should feature;

  1. Reviews by noted personalities in the field, a famous government official, a Nobel prize winner, etc.

  2. Awards won by the book.

  3. At which prominent university classes the book is required reading.

  4. Reviews by other librarians.

Librarians purchase titles to meet a need. Talk to university and public librarians to identify that need.
